Hello and Happy New Year!
You might have noticed with our last issue that we've changed our format just a bit. We're now offering our newsletter in smaller, bite-sized format; just a handful of small business and technology focused links you can't miss, a few updates, and then we're on our way. Have you read an article you think my team and I should check out? Have you or your business been in the news recently? Drop me a line and let me know, so I can share it with the rest of our readers.
As we slide into a brand new year I'd like to take this moment to thank you, our readers, customers, fellow business owners and vendors, for continuing to make Northern Michigan and especially the Grand Traverse area such an incredible place to work and own a business. Myself, my wife Sue, and the rest of the Terrapin Team wish you nothing but continued success in 2017 and beyond.
All the best-
Hacked! How Does It Happen? Tim on WTCM
It's always a great day when I get to be a guest on Christal Frost's show on WTCM. Last week we chatted about the recent Yahoo hack, a worrying new way that criminals are stealing from older folks who might be unfamiliar with tech securities, and how you and your business can stay safe in the new year. It's a good listen.

Tech Tip:
Scan Documents Straight Into Dropbox, Google Drive, or Evernote
Dropbox, Google Drive and Evernote are easily three of the most important apps a small business owner (or anyone, really) can utilize to help keep their data accessible. Each cloud-based storing system is great for jotting down notes, keeping and sharing files and photos, and saving that great article you read recently. But did you know you can scan a document straight in, just by snapping a photo with your phone?
Here's how:
Dropbox:
Open the Dropbox app on your iPhone or Android.
Tap the + (plus sign) button.
Choose Scan Document (on Android, this is "Take a Picture")
(bonus hint: you can sync your phone and your computer's internal files seamlessly with Dropbox Connect. Go to dropbox.com/connect to learn more)
Google Drive:
Open the Google Drive app on Android
(this feature is not supported for iPhone, unfortunately)
Tap the + (plus sign) button
Choose Scan
Rename the image at the top of the screen if necessary, then save to the desired folder
Evernote:
Open the Evernote app on Android or iPhone
Tap the + (plus sign) button
Tap the Camera sign button.
select the image and choose how it is saved, then save to the desired folder
Thanks for reading!
