LEELANAU COUNTY (WPBN/WGTU) -- If you have trouble connecting to internet in certain areas of Leelanau County, that could soon change.

The Leelanau Internet Futures Team, or LIFT, is currently working to have internet providers expand the reach of high speed internet throughout the area.

LIFT is surveying the community to find out exactly where the problem spots are.

LIFT officials said internet is too crucial in today's society, and can't be considered a luxury anymore.

"About half of our county does not have high speed internet capabilities," said Patricia Soutas-Little, The Technology Committee's Chair. "That's huge for economic opportunities, and it's also huge for education."

You can fill out the survey online, or by picking up a hard copy at a county library (Leland Public, Suttons Bingham, Leelanau Township, and Glen Lake).

You can then return it to one of those libraries or mail it to LEPF, PO box 1063, Leland MI 49654.

The surveying should be done in about 2 weeks.
